What is REMO?
Retuno E Maa Organization (REMO) is a registered Tanzanian NGO founded in 2024, working with Tanzanian communities on water access, education, environmental conservation, and women's empowerment.
What does Retuno E Maa mean?
The name Retuno e Maa originally comes from the Maasai language. Retuno meaning helping and supporting each other, and e Maa representing the wider community we stand with.
Who leads REMO?
REMO is founded and led by Emmanuel Saitoti, based in Tanzania, supported by a small team of local staff and two international co-founders who contribute skills, networks, and resources to a vision that remains Tanzanian-led.
What does REMO actually do?
We run five core programmes: rainwater harvesting water systems, ICT digital skills education, girls' school participation support, women's economic empowerment through beadwork cooperatives, and tree planting and reforestation.
How is REMO funded?
Currently, we are mainly funded through individual donations and fundraising campaigns. We hope to grow more partnerships with organisations and corporate sponsors.
Can I volunteer with REMO?
Yes — we welcome skilled volunteers both on the ground in Tanzania and remotely (e.g. social media, international relations). All volunteer involvement is designed to support, not replace, local capacity and leadership.
How can I stay updated with REMO's work?
The easiest way is to subscribe to our newsletter (find in the bottom right corner of our website). But all our social media channels (Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn) are a great way to stay updated as well!
