Tree Planting & Reforestation in Msomera, Tanzania

Tree Planting & Reforestation in Msomera, Tanzania
What changes when a community gains access to something as simple as a tree? In Msomera, the answer is clear: shade, fruits, income and a landscape that becomes a little less challenging. When families arrived here after being relocated from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, they faced dry climate with few natural resources. The most challenging part was missing the resources they were so used to back in Ngorongoro, especially tree species with various uses.

Our Response

"Through our tree planting project, supported by the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, we are working with the community to revitalise the landscape and improve daily life. Together with our partner Mr. Naman from the Ngorongoro tree nursery in Karatu, and with support from Tim Plückebaum (Founding Member & Volunteer), we distributed 200 trees to more than 25 households beginning of 2024. - Emmanuel Saitoti, Founder and Director of REMO Beyond distribution, we also spent time teaching households about each tree species, including how to plant them properly, how much water they require, and how to protect young trees during the dry season. To ensure long-term success, the project is supported by local caretakers and REMO team members who regularly visit the households, check the growth of the trees, and offer guidance when needed. This follow-up system helps families feel supported and increases the survival rate of every planted tree.

Expected Impact

Only a year later, the impact is already visible. Families enjoy: Fresh fruit and improved nutrition Improved soil health and protection from soil erosion Opportunities for small-scale income through tree products Each sapling nurtured represents a step toward sustainable livelihoods, a greener, reforested environment, and a stronger, self-reliant community.
